Released in Argentina in 1968, the Crack Figuritas Sport issue offers collectors one of the more scarce and visually appealing South American cards of Pelé from his prime. Card #25 features the Brazilian legend during his reign at Santos, a period in which he was universally recognized as the greatest footballer in the world and had already captured World Cup titles in 1958 and 1962.
The tall-format card presents a vibrant full-length color image of Pelé walking onto the pitch in Santos' all-white kit, his name printed across the top and a large facsimile signature emblazoned across the front. The reverse displays a "Rompecabezas" puzzle panel depicting the Vélez Sarsfield (Catamarca) club, complete with player identifications and kit descriptions, an engaging characteristic of the regional Argentine issue. PSA has graded the card VG-EX 4 (Cert. #164157814). The example displays strong color and bold registration, with wear to the corners and edges consistent with the grade.
The card's condition rarity is remarkable. This example is one of just one in the PSA Population at the VG-EX 4 grade, with only one example graded higher, at EX 5. Like many South American issues of the era, the cards were distributed under conditions that left few survivors in collectible condition.
Pelé would go on to complete his historic third World Cup championship in 1970 in Mexico, the only player ever to win three. A rare, high-grade example of a scarce Pelé issue from his Santos prime.
