Hank Aaron entered the 1972 season as one of the most accomplished hitters in baseball history, and the 1972 Topps #299 captures the Atlanta Braves legend as his pursuit of Babe Ruth's career home run record entered its final stretch. The reverse of this card lists 639 career home runs through 1971, a total that would climb to 715 by April 8, 1974, when Aaron passed Ruth to become baseball's all-time home run king.

The front features Aaron in his Braves pinstripes and navy cap, posed in his batting stance before a clean outfield backdrop. The bold yellow, red and green "Braves" lettering of the 1972 Topps design frames the image. The reverse details his complete batting record from 1952 through 1971, including a .327 average and 47 home runs in 1971, a career-high in home runs for Aaron at age 37.

Aaron finished his career with 755 home runs, along with all-time records for RBIs and total bases, and he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982 on his first ballot.

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA (Cert. #12515612), this example displays bright color, clean surfaces and sharp corners. The 1972 Topps design is notoriously condition sensitive, and well-preserved copies of Aaron's card are always in strong demand.

A classic card of one of the game's most important figures and a cornerstone for Braves and vintage collectors. PSA NM-MT 8.
