No rookie card in football captures the swagger of a new era quite like the 1965 Topps Joe Namath. Signed to a then-record contract by the AFL's New York Jets out of the University of Alabama, "Broadway Joe" brought star power, style and a rocket arm to the upstart league, and four years later he famously guaranteed and delivered a victory over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, forever changing the course of professional football.

Offered here is Namath's 1965 Topps #122 rookie card, graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Part of the beloved oversized "tall boy" set, the card features a striking portrait of the young quarterback in his Jets green, cocked to pass against the bright yellow background with bold red "NEW YORK" lettering above. The reverse, with its orange and black design, notes that he was "signed for a large bundle of cash" and credits his 18 completions for 255 yards in the 1965 Orange Bowl.

This example presents beautifully for the grade, with strong eye appeal, vibrant color, sharp focus and solid centering. The larger format of the 1965 issue makes clean corners and edges notoriously difficult to find, adding to the appeal of this attractive copy. As the key card in one of the most iconic sets of the 1960s, the Namath rookie remains a cornerstone of any serious football collection. Encapsulated by PSA, certification #31738392.
