Presented is a T206 pitching pose with a scarcer advertising back: a 1909-11 T206 Joe Doyle (Hands Above Head) with a Sovereign 350 back, graded EX 5 by PSA. Sovereign backs are considerably tougher than the common Piedmont and Sweet Caporal backs, and T206 back collectors keenly pursue them.
The obverse shows New York hurler "Slow Joe" Doyle in the middle of his windup, both arms raised overhead and a tan glove cradling the ball. He wears a dark cap and a crisp white uniform with "NEW YORK" across the chest, all set against a clear sky-blue backdrop. The caption "Doyle, N.Y." appears in the bottom border. The lithography is bright and well-registered, with especially strong color in the blue background and the warm tones of the glove.
The reverse features the green Sovereign Cigarettes advertisement, "Fit for a King," with "Base Ball Series 350 Subjects" and the "Factory No. 25, 2nd Dist. VA" tagline. The ink is clean and legible throughout.
The card presents very well for the EX 5 grade, with nicely balanced centering, sharp color and only light wear to the corners. It is housed in an earlier-generation PSA holder that many vintage collectors prefer. An attractive Sovereign-back example from the hobby's most iconic set, it would make a fine addition to any T206 type or back-variation collection. Encapsulated by PSA (Cert. #04461280).
