Offered is the scarcest of Ty Cobb's four T206 poses with a desirable advertising back: a 1909-11 T206 Ty Cobb Green Portrait with a Sweet Caporal 150 back, certified Authentic/Altered by SGC. The Green Portrait was printed only during the 150 Series and is widely regarded as the toughest Cobb pose in the set.
The obverse offers outstanding eye appeal. A young Cobb, wearing Detroit's gray flannel jersey with the Old English "D," is framed against a lush, saturated green backdrop. The facial features are rendered in fine lithographic detail, and the caption "Cobb, Detroit" appears in the bottom border. The reverse displays the classic red Sweet Caporal Cigarettes advertisement ("The Standard for Years") with "Base Ball Series 150 Subjects" and the "Factory No. 30, 2nd Dist. N.Y." tagline, all printed in bright, legible ink.
SGC has certified the card as authentic and assigned an "Altered" designation in lieu of a numerical grade. Even so, the card presents beautifully to the eye, with bold color, a well-centered image and clean borders. That makes it an attractive and comparatively accessible way to own Cobb's most desirable T206 image.
Cobb's résumé speaks for itself: a record .366 lifetime batting average, 12 batting titles, more than 4,100 hits and the top vote total in the Hall of Fame's inaugural 1936 class. This is a display-worthy example of one of the most iconic cards ever produced. Encapsulated by SGC (Cert. #5317261).
