This is a marvelous piece of Negro league ephemera: a five-page contract for $20000 for the movie rights to Satchel Paige's biography "Maybe I'll Pitch Forever." The five onion-skin pages are essentially Nr-Mt with roughly half of the five pages committed to the obligatory legal "Whereas" and "Therefore" mumbo jumbo and the rest to signing declarations by the Notary Public here and there. The key of course is on page 3 with outstanding ballpoint pen signatures from "Leroy Satchel Paige and Mrs. Lahoma Paige. The final figure of $20000 sounds like a lot of money but not such much when you read the breakdown on page 2 that explains that the Paige's themselves only receive 40 percent of that figure with the rest going to four others with literary of movie links including 25 percent to David Lipman the author of the biography.
