Nobody would dispute the large designation but "magnificent" while subjective is just as much of a sure thing in this case. Upon receiving it in 1966 it might have been interesting to hear how Casey himself would have described this incredible piece of 22-by-30-inch hand-drawn calligraphy complete with gold-leaf highlights and intricate and elaborate full-color border designs and decorations. Casey might have noted that they don't make them like this anymore and indeed they don't. The New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America took the occasion of Casey being kicked upstairs to a new post as Mets vice president to honor the man who had provided so many of them with good copy for a half century or so. If an official document can be a work of art this is it. From "Charles Dillon Stengel" in gold leaf at the top of the document to the colorful first letter that features a black-and-white image of a somewhat younger Casey the piece is nothing short of spectacular. A grand total of 205 association members are listed in elegant calligraphy a roster that is a veritable Who's Who of New York City and environs sportswriting royalty from the postwar era. The document is in Excellent condition betraying only a tiny bit of light staining on some extreme edges all of which would be instantly neutralized by a typical matting and framing arrangement. This is one of those rare pieces that must be seen and closely examined to be fully appreciated.
