ADDENDUM: Parrish had this ring made for a friend making it one of two issued to the former Tigers catcher.
The 1984 American League Champion Detroit Tigers managed by Sparky Anderson won the World Series by defeating the National league Champion San Diego Padres four games to one. The championship marked the franchises fourth World Series title and its first in 16 years. The 84 season was also notable for the Tigers as they led the A.L. East division wire-to-wire. They opened with nine straight victories were 355 after 40 games and never relinquished the lead during the entire season. They finished with 104 regular-season wins. Catcher Lance Parrish known as the "Big Wheel" led the team in home runs (33) and runs batted in (98). He was the starting catcher for the A.L. All-Star team and won both the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards in 1984. In postseason play he hit two home runs and knocked in five runs. His second round-tripper came in the decisive Game 5 of the World Series at Tiger Stadium.
This lot features a Lance Parrish 1984 Detroit Tigers World Series Championship ring one of two known to exist. Parrish apparently had this one made for a friend according to the dealer who purchased it and has now consigned it. Made of 14 karat yellow gold with real diamonds it is the exact same version as Parrish's original '84 ring coming in a size 13 and weighing Around the top perimeter is "DETROIT TIGERS WORLD CHAMPIONS" in raised lettering. On the top center is a blue stone face with inlaid baseball diamond. On the four corners of this baseball diamond are set four small round diamonds and in the center is set a larger round diamond. On the right shank in relief is the recipient's name "PARRISH" with the Detroit Tigers "D" logo below it. On the left shank in relief is "1984" with the Detroit Tigers "Tiger" logo below it. "Balfour 14K" is stamped on the inside of the rings band. Overall this jewel of a championship ring is in Near Mint condition with light wear. A treasured piece of sports memorabilia from a memorable season for Motown.
