Watch Video of Kirk Gibson's amazing Pinch Hit (courtesy of MLB.com)

Upon being summoned by the serendipitous circumstances that unfolded in Game One of the World Series on the evening of October 15th 1988 this Worth model number WC137 was the chosen weapon of Kirk Gibson. Watching the game evolution on a television in the Dodgers clubhouse and sensing that his number might be called Gibson picked up this bat and began taking warm-up hacks off of a batting tee. At 34.5 inches and a weight of 32.1 ounces it was smaller and lighter than most of the other bats in Gibson arsenal but was right for the occasion given Gibson condition and need for increased bat speed. The bat shows evidence of heavy use much of which is attributable to the historic at bat. Among the many ball marks and ball stitch impressions visible on the front and left barrel are red ink transfers from the exclusive red labeling of 1988 World Series balls including one such marking that Gibson himself believes is the final point of contact in the life of this storied bat. Numerous cleat marks are visible on all sides of the barrel including some that are unusually deep. Video footage shows Gibson pounding his spikes with increased intensity as the count deepened during the course of his duel with Eckersley. A heavy coat of pine tar covers the handle and center brand. Gibson's initials KG length 4 1/2 and the model number WC 137 are stamped into the knob. Gibson's number 23 is written on the knob in black marker. A Kirk Gibson signature his number '23' and the added inscription 'My 1988 WS HR Bat' have been added on the right barrel in silver marker.

Never was a piece of equipment more reflective of its user than this war club. Often described as a gritty hard-nosed no-nonsense player Kirk Gibson was s a man that every Major League Baseball team wanted in its lineup or as they say in football wanted to go to war with. Bearing his three-day stubble and menacing scowl Gibson was stoked by raw intensity and fierce competitiveness. This bat is the embodiment of those Gibson qualities that he transferred to the baseball diamond. It is also a museum worthy baseball treasure of extraordinary proportion. A monument to not only one of the most awe-inspiring home runs in baseball history but a signature moment in the history of sports. Includes a signed LOA from Kirk Gibson full PSA/DNA LOA for sig. and an additional LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (Graded GU10).
