June 14 1887 Boston Base Ball Association of the National League one $100 share stock certificate signed by team President Arthur H. Soden and team secretary J. B. Billings. Soden bought into and became President of the Boston Red Caps in 1877 and soon became one of the most prominent owners in the National League. Along with Treasurer J. B. Billings and Secretary William Conant the three "Triumvirs" ruled Boston with a tight fist through the turn of the Century a period which produced 8 National League pennants for the city. When Hall of Famers Jim O'Rourke and George Wright jumped to Providence in 1879 Soden became the leading force in developing what would become the "Reserve Clause" which bonded players to their team until traded or released. Financially Soden helped support other National League teams in times of financial turmoil like during ill fated 1890 Players League rebellion. Team President Soden has signed "A. H. Soden" in 8-9/10 vintage black steel tip pen with Secretary Billings in the same 9-10/10 ink. Stock certificate itself in very nice condition for it's age with the original folds and a pair of holes at the left side made by a pin used to attach the original receipt which is also included. Great piece of early Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves baseball history!

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
