On July 6, 1933, at Chicago's Comiskey Park, baseball forever changed course as the American and National Leagues squared off in the first-ever All-Star Game, an experiment born from a Chicago Tribune promotion for the Century of Progress World's Fair that blossomed into one of the sport's most cherished traditions. This original wire photograph, issued by Acme Newspictures and stamped by the N.E.A. reference department on July 11, 1933, captures the victorious American League squad posed together on the Comiskey Park infield, a gathering of talent rarely equaled before or since.

Front and center stand Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the Yankees' "Murderers' Row" duo, flanked by manager Connie Mack and a roster reading like a plaque wall in Cooperstown: Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Lefty Grove, Bill Dickey, Lefty Gomez, Tony Lazzeri, Joe Cronin, Charley Gehringer, and Earl Averill among them. Ruth supplied the game's signature moment that day, launching the first-ever All-Star home run. The reverse retains its original typed caption identifying every man pictured, along with the photo service's Chicago bureau stamping. A first-generation Type I photograph per PSA/DNA, this piece measures 8.5” by 6” and stands as a tangible artifact from the birth of an American sporting institution, uniting an unprecedented concentration of Hall of Famers in a single frame.
