One of the most memorable NBA All-Star games ever played took place on February 13, 1977 at the old Milwaukee Arena (aka The MECCA). It was the first All-Star game following the merger between the NBA and the ABA. And since the ABA had no national television contract, the game was the platform for ABA legend Julius "Dr. J" Erving's introduction to a wider national audience. Erving took full advantage of the opportunity, dominating the game, scoring 30 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, and demonstrating high-flying moves fans of the established NBA had rarely seen before. For being named MVP of the 1977 NBA All-Star game, Dr. J received not only a large trophy (see lot ) but also the offered jersey. This green mesh presentation jersey, made by Sand-Knit just like the jersey Erving wore in the game, features screened on lettering and ornamentation including the team name “EAST” in olde English lettering. Erving’s number “6” appears on front and back with his name “ERVING” arched atop the back. Sand-knit (size 40) label is stitiched on the front tail. The jersey was presented to Erving in a frame from which it has since been removed along with the accompanying engraved metal placard. The 6 ½” by 5” placard reads, “1977 NBA EAST ALL-STAR #6 PRESENTED TO: “DR. J” JULIS ERVING By The People of Milwaukee and The State of Wisconsin in recognition of Your Outstanding MVP Performance in The 1977 NBA ALL-STAR GAME. February 13, 1977 – Milwaukee Arena. BUCKS FANS ARE JULIUS ERVING FANS…TEHN, NOW AND ALWAYS! Thank You for Your Good Example, Your Exciting Play and Your Love of The Game of Basketball!” The incredible size (4 ft. tall) and opulent ornamentation of this multi-tiered trophy are befitting of Erving’s flamboyant performance. An etched plaque on the base reads, “MOST VALUABLE PLAYER NBA ALL-STAR GAME FEBRUARY 13, 1977 MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN”. Erving has added his signature to the front of the jersey in black sharpie.

Includes a signed LOA from Julius Erving.
