Only one season after being welcomed to San Antonio the Spurs hosted the eighth annual ABA All-Star Game in 1975. At the time of the game the Spurs had a front-office staff of four (Angelo Drossos VP Bernie LeReau trainer/equipment manager Terry Stembridge Broadcaster and Wayne Witt PR Director). In classic ABA style they put on a memorable show on a shoestring budget. Joe Namath was lined up as guest speaker at a pregame luncheon Willie Nelson performed at a pregame gala and also sang the national anthem. The games MVP St. Louis Freddie Lewis received a quarter horse named Tuff Julie. Lewis eventually settled on Tuff Julies auction price of $1950 instead of opting to take the horse home. The East won the game 151-124. For his participation in this classic ABA exhibition Dr. J - the leagues premier star received this 6 by 9 plaque. It features a photographic rendering of Dr. J with a metal plaquard with engraved titling at bottom. Erving has signed this significant and scarce ABA presentation piece beneath his likeness in silver sharpie.
