The 1960 Yankees won the A.L. pennant for the 25th time and looked poised to win their third straight World Series. But in the Fall Classic, New York found themselves on the wrong side of history. Heavily favored over a hard-nosed Pittsburgh Pirates squad, the Yanks were given all they could handle in a back-and-forth thriller. Alas, it was the heroics of Bill Mazeroski that did them in. His leadoff home run off Ralph Terry in the bottom of the ninth of Game 7 broke a 9-9 tie and became the first ever walk-off big fly in World Series history. The man who called that fateful pitch was backup catcher Johnny Blanchard. Presented here is Blanchard’s very own 1960 American League Champions ring, one that may bring back dark memories for the Pinstripers yet remains an important piece of history.

The classy 14-karat gold player’s ring displays "1960" and a large baseball in relief on both shanks, while the face has a patriotic “Yankees Top Hat and Bat” logo using red and blue stones and four genuine diamonds. The oval perimeter reads "AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" and inside the band is the manufacturer's “Balfour 14K” stamping along with “John E Blanchard” engraved in lovely script. The size 12-1/2 ring (32 g) exhibits medium wear and presents beautifully. A year later Blanchard would redeem himself in the ’61 Series when he hit two homers and batted .400 against the Reds to help bring the trophy back to the Bronx.
