December 22 1961 typed signed letter on White House stationary from President John F. Kennedy to Chief Homer Large of the Palm Beach Police Department thanking him and his force for all the help he had given him and his staff. Kennedy has signed the 6 1/2" by 9" document in beautiful 8-9/10 looking black ball point pen. Large became a friend of Kennedy knowing the future President from the time he was just a teenager. An interesting article concerning the President and Large is as follows: "JFK would elude the Secret Service on occasion in order to have trysts with women. He did this in Palm Beach when he hopped a fence to swim with Flo Smith. The Secret Service agents couldnt find him and called in the FBI. They finally turned to Palm Beach Police Chief Homer Large a trusted Kennedy family associate. The Police Chief knew exactly where to find Jack next door in Earl E. T. Smiths swimming pool. Jack and Flo were alone and as Homer put it They werent doing the Australian crawl." In addition to the President Large would guard other notables and celebrities when they stayed in Palm Beach. Included with the lot is a color photo of Kennedy and Large shaking hands.
