Hall of Famer Joe Sewell spent 11 years as the Cleveland Indians star shortstop from 1920-30, winning a World Series as a rookie and another championship in his final MLB season with the Yankees in 1932. In 1954, when he served as Cleveland southern territory scout, the Indians won the American League pennant, finishing with the best record in baseball at 111-43. They went on to lose in the Fall Classic to Willie Mays' New York Giants.
Offered here is a lovely 14-karat gold tie bar and clasp issued to Joe Sewell for his scouting duties and longtime playing tenure. The tie bar is shaped like a bat and features a decorative Chief Wahoo within a baseball diamond boasting "1954 CLEVELAND INDIANS" using red rubies for the bases and Wahoo's eyes. Barrel of the bat is inscribed "American League Champions". Back is inscribed "All-Time Record 111 Games Won" with "LGB 14K" hallmark by Balfour.
These were awarded only to players, coaches and select staff at the time.According to the included Sewell family letter, Joe wore this "every day." Yet, it remains in outstanding condition. LOA from Sewell's grandson.
