It's difficult to imagine any other artist so thoroughly capable of transporting the viewer back in time to a specific moment in baseball history capturing both the feel and look of the players stadium and fans but also of the time itself. Graig Kreindler routinely accomplishes all of that and more and this stunning evocative 34-by-22-inch oil-on-linen masterpiece featuring Joe DiMaggio effectively makes it mid-July at Fenway Park in 1938. The great Yankee Clipper is battling with none other than Lefty Grove in this marvelous artwork; all that's missing is the sound of the crack of the bat and the crowd noise and maybe even the smell of the green grass of Fenway hot dogs and beer but if you look long enough at the painting the rest of it will be there as well. Truly there is no greater baseball artist extant capable of matching this kind of ethereal moment; the fact that this is the original oil painting makes the opportunity all the more remarkable.
