This striking photo captures the very beginning of the Kennedy Era in America. Taken on John F. Kennedy’s Inauguration Day in 1961, the new president speaks confidently from the podium as new Vice President Johnson looks on from a seat beside him. Next to Johnson sits former Vice President Nixon who had just lost to Kennedy in the hotly contested election. This photo is a wonderful study of facial expressions – Kennedy’s confident yet hopeful reflection on the hard road ahead; Johnson’s look of daydreaming distraction; and Nixon’s wistful gaze as he contemplates his political future. Measuring 7” x 9”, this Type 1 photo displays edge wear to the white border which includes creasing on all edges and some paper loss in the lower right corner. The back of the photo has the remnants of the original caption slug along with a Culver Pictures stamp and stickers along with many pencil notations of the content and printer marks. The photo comes with a LOA and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
