The Pittsburgh Steelers ruled the 1970's with four Super Bowl titles. Behind quarterback Terry Bradshaw running back Franco Harris and wide receivers Lynn Swann and John Stallworth--all of whom are enshrined in Canton--the Steelers were a well-oiled machine on offense. The "Steel Curtain" front line led by "Mean Joe" Greene and L.C. Greenwood backed by linebackers Jack Ham and Jack Lambert--again all Hall of Famers--made their defense one of the greatest ever.
This lot includes a replica Lombardi Trophy named after legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi paying tribute to Pittsburgh's first ever Super Bowl victory on January 12 1975. It stands 17” tall and weighs 11 pounds. The neck of the trophy upon which rests a silver football reads: “VINCE LOMBARDI TROPHY SUPER BOWL IX - AFC vs. NFC.” It goes on to spell out the location – "Tulane Stadium New Orleans Louisiana" - JANUARY 12 1975” – and also reflects the final score of the game: "PITTSBURGH STEELERS 16 – MINNESOTA VIKINGS 6.”
Franco Harris won game MVP honors carrying the ball 34 times for 158 yards and a touchdown. Bradshaw who is tied with Joe Montana and Tom Brady with the most Super Bowl titles (4) by a quarterback would win two Super Bowl MVP awards later in the decade. In this game he threw for 96 yards and a touchdown as Harris and the Steelers "D" did the rest allowing no offensive points and intercepted Fran Tarkenton three times. On the triangular black marble base of the trophy are two special black plaques on the side panels one signed by Bradshaw with his No. "12" and the other signed by Harris with his No. "32" inscribed. Both are done in sparkling 10/10 silver marker and have corresponding JSA sticker holograms for authenticity.
