This is the singlet worn by Jack Davis during the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. This was the second Olympics for the former USC hurdles star and he duplicated his 1952 performance by taking home the Silver Medal in 110 meter hurdles. Later in 1956 Davis set a new world record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.4. The 2-time Silver medalist went on to help found the U.S. Olympics Training Center and was voted into both the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame and the USC Hall of Fame.

The white singlet features a red white and blue diagonal ribbon across the front with a red white blue and gold Team USA shield patch. Davis’ “251” number plate is sewn over the red white and blue ribbon and a Wilson label with size “38” hand tag is sewn in the lower front tail. Jack Davis has autographed the number plate in black ink next to the “2”. The back of the singlet has another “251” number plate with “J. Davis” hand written in black ink. The piece shows tremendous use with heavy toning throughout. There is some spotting from a black tar substance found on the right side of the body as well as light to medium staining throughout. The ribbon patch and number plate show puckering from wandering and age the ink on the number plates is faded. A tremendous find from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

Letter of provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
