Incredible collection of New York Yankees autographs (93 different players, 94 total signatures), some going back to the franchise's beginning as the Highlanders at the turn of the 20th century. None are Hall of Famers, but some are so ancient and obscure that their value far exceeds a typical Hall of Fame signature. Most are signed on 3x5 index cards unless specified. Cut signatures are matted to 3x5 index cards. Many have newspaper clipping images of said player for an improved presentation. Baseball cards lay loose on 3x5's that are placed inside plastic rolodex protectors. The majority are signed (with several inscribed) in blue ink ranging 6-9/10 in strength and eye appeal. (See Dave Hill's bio in our catalog or Lots 164-179.)

Early and rare autographs that bear special mentioning are: Jack Warhop (gave up Ruth's first two career HR's); Russ Ford (won 26 games as Highlanders rookie in 1910); Ping Bodie (Ruth's first NYY roommate); Jack Quinn (Hungarian who pitched until age 50); Wally Schang (one of greatest hitting catchers of dead-ball era); Bob Shawkey (CG win in 1st game at Yankee Stadium in 1923); Carl Mays (killed Ray Chapman with pitch in 1920); "Jumpin" Joe Dugan (one of best 3B in his era); Bob Meusel (batted 5th, behind Ruth & Gehrig, in "Murderer's Row" lineup); Mark Koenig (batted 2nd, ahead of Ruth & Gehrig, in "Murderer's Row"); George Pipgras ('27-33 NYY starter who became controversial umpire); Tom Zachary (12-0 record in 1930 remains most wins without loss in one season); Frank Crosetti (17x WS champ with Yanks as player & coach); Babe Dahlgren (replaced Gehrig at 1B after ALS diagnosis); and Nick Etten (PCL great who starred for Yanks during WW2).
