Love ‘em or hate ‘em, there’s no other team in baseball that says “World Series” more than the New York Yankees. This extraordinary collection brings together one ticket stub from each of the 38 Fall Classics played at the original Yankee Stadium. The collection starts with the 1923 Series, coincidentally the first one played in the brand new Yankee Stadium AND the very first World Series Championship in franchise history. There’s one from the 1927 Series, won by what many consider the greatest ballclub ever assembled. We have one from the 1932 Series which was the Babe’s last as well as 1936 which was Joe DiMaggio’s first.
The run continues into the war years where the Yanks battled the Cardinals and on into the 1950s where Mantle & Company appeared in 8 of the 10 Fall Classics. We have a ticket to the ’61 Series which capped off Roger Maris’ race to beat Babe Ruth’s home run record. The resurgence of the Yanks in the 1970s are covered by stubs from the 1976-1978 Series’ and then there’s the “Core Four” dynasty of the late 90s to 2009 after which the old ballpark was torn down.
This wonderful group represents nine decades of baseball excellence played in America’s version of the great Roman Coliseum. The ticket stubs all show an appropriate level of wear and age, and all have been torn at the gate – who wouldn’t have killed to attend a World Series game at the original Yankee Stadium, the "House that Ruth Built"?
Five of the tickets, including the important 1923 and 1927 examples, have been encapsulated and graded by PSA.
1923 World Series Game 3 -- PSA FR 1.5 (Pop 2, seven higher). Future NYY manager Casey Stengel hits GW homer off "Sad" Sam Jones in 7th inning as NY Giants win 1-0 behind CG shutout from Art Nehf.
1926 World Series Game 2 -- PSA PR 1 (Pop 1, thirteen higher). Billy Southworth stars at plate and Grover Cleveland Alexander stars on mound (CG, 1ER, 10K's) as Cardinals beat Yankees 6-2.
1927 World Series Game 3 -- PSA Authentic (Pop 24, forty higher). Babe Ruth hits 3-run homer (9th career W.S. HR) and Herb Pennock goes the distance in 8-1 Yankees win over Pirates.
1928 World Series Game 1 -- PSA Authentic (Pop 6, ten higher). Ruth goes 3-for-4 with two doubles, Gehrig 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Meusel hits 2-run HR, while Waite Hoyt goes the distance in 4-1 Yanks win over Cards.
1932 World Series Game 1 -- PSA VG-EX 4 (MK) (Pop 1, None Higher!). Lou Gehrig hits 5th career W.S. homer, while Red Ruffing Hoyt goes the distance (10K's) in 12-6 Yanks win over Cubs. https://www.psacard.com/pop/tickets/1932/world-series-gm-1-stub/71975
