Incredible typically is a more-than-adequate adjective but even it may come up wanting a bit in the case of this Official Team Scorebook from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1913-14. The 8 3/4-by-11-inch hardbound Spalding Scorebook was the official team scorebook for the Pirates during the 1913-14 season presumably kept by John Gruber the team's scorekeeper for 44 seasons. The 100-year-old book is in marvelous condition betraying only the kind of spine wear that you would expect from a book written in on a daily basis over the course of a two-year period. It is meticulous written in pencil on every page seemingly in the same hand and including all of the club's home games (and a few away games) a total of more than 150 ballgames plus a little-remembered seven-game postseason exhibition played between Pittsburgh and Cleveland in October of 1913 (Wagner Lajoie Jackson et. al). The Baseball Hall of Fame doesn't typically like the precedent of buying memorabilia but one can't help but think they'd like to get their hands on this monster. It's the real deal.
