The Brownies took advantage during the talent-depleted war era to claim their first and only American League pennant in 1944. Though they'd ultimately fall to their crosstown rival Cardinals in the World Series, the franchise got its first taste of October baseball. 24 bold autographs averaging 8/10 include: manager Luke Sewell (SS), Vern Stephens, Denny Galehouse (SS), George McQuinn, Don Gutteridge, Al Zarilla, Nelson Potter, Gene Moore, Milt Byrnes, Welden "Lefty" West, Red Hayworth, Ellis Clary, Sam Zoldak, Al Hollingsworth, Mike Kreevich, Mike Chartak, Tex Shirley Chet Laabs, George Caster, Floyd Baker, Tom Turner, and more on a fairly clean OAL (Harridge) ball. "AM CHAMP 44" and "ST LOUIS AMERICAN" inscriptions are done in unknown hand. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
