Herb Pennock was a hard-throwing lefthander for the Philadelphia Athletics Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. It was in 1927 however while playing for the Bronx Bombers when Pennock used this well-worn D&M branded glove to make history. Pitching in Game 3 of the World Series Pennock shut down the Pittsburgh Pirates and threw a complete game 8-1 victory. In fact he was throwing a no-hitter through seven innings that day and wound up allowing just three hits. The left-handed leather glove shows ample wear and tear and is personalized in black ink on the pinkie side of the glove with the following inscription: To my friend Joe E. Brown World Series 1927 Yankees - 8 Pittsburgh -1 Herb Pennock. The game was played on Friday October 7 in front of 60695 fans at Yankee Stadium. Thanks to Pennock's precise pitching it lasted just two hours and four minutes. The Yankees wound up sweeping the Pirates in four straight games to nail down their second World Series championship in five years. Pennock would play six more seasons with the Yankees helping the team win two more World Series titles in 1928 and 32.

Provenance: Joe E. Brown was among the biggest stars of stage film radio and television in the 1920s and 30s. He was also a tremendous sports fan and a co-owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. A passionate collector of sports memorabilia Joe E. Brown donated this glove along with many other significant items to the Helms Athletic Foundation.

Full LOA from PSA/DNA.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
