The only thing rarer than a Hank Aaron photograph picturing him wearing uniform number 5 would be finding an Aaron autograph inscription adding the "5." That's the happy circumstance here: a wonderful 16-by-20-inch blank-and-white photo of the putative home run champion in his rookie season with Milwaukee in 1954. Aaron was originally that number and wore it throughout that rookie season until it ended prematurely with a broken ankle suffered in early September. He was assigned No. 44 the following season making the No. 5 appearance in photography and attendant autograph inscription particularly intriguing. Only 25 of these amazing images were signed by Aaron with the No. 5 added; the photo is by acclaimed photographer Frank Stanfield whose subjects over the years included the Braves Packers and Milwaukee's Triple-A Brewers. The images from the Frank Stanfield Collection were hand-developed from the original 4-by-6-inch file negative. The photo has been professional matted and framed to overall dimensions of 21-by-26 inches; all elements appear to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition.
