Unique NBA award presented to Hall of Fame swing-man Hal Greer who played 15 seasons for the same franchise and starred on perhaps the greatest NBA team ever. After four years at Marshall University Greer was taken by the Syracuse Nationals in the 2nd round of the 1958 NBA draft. The franchise relocated to Philadelphia before the 1963-64 season and the 76ers were born. By this time Greer had become a prolific all-around player and vaunted team leader who consistently put up 20 points 5 rebounds and 4 assists each game. He was also known for an odd yet highly effective (80% career average) free-throw approach in which he would literally take a jump-shot. In 1965 Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain joined the 76ers and set the stage for a historic run in the 1966-67 season. Perhaps it was Greer who convinced Wilt to sacrifice some of his scoring for the betterment of the team as Wilt's 24.1 ppg was his lowest at that point of his career. On the other hand Wilt shared the ball better than he ever had (7.8 apg) and again lead the league in rebounding (24.2). As a unit Chamberlain and Greer along with Chet Walker and Billy Cunningham lead the 76ers to 45 wins in their first 49 games a record that still stands today. The Sixers finished the regular season a then-record 68-13 knocked out the mighty Celtics in five games in the playoffs and defeated the San Francisco Warriors in six in the NBA Finals. Greer may have played second fiddle to Wilt's 3rd MVP during the regular season but the sharp-shooting off-guard lead his team in scoring during the playoffs with a 27.7 average.

Celebrating the NBA's 35th anniversary in 1980 the Professional Basketball Writer's Association of America voted the 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers the "Greatest Team in NBA History" to that point in time. By all accounts it may still be the best team (although I'm sure the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls beg to differ). Hal Greer received this blue-bound certificate award in honor of his contributions to that team and the game of basketball overall. It is dated October 30 1980. Then Commissioner Larry O'Brien has signed the original document in 9/10 blue ballpoint pen. Both the certificate and binder are in excellent condition.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
