Grover Cleveland Alexander's cut signature, mounted on a newspaper clipping featuring his biographical profile and portrait photograph, represents one of the rarest and most significant autographs attainable in the entire realm of vintage baseball collecting. Alexander — known as "Pete" or "Old Pete" — won 373 games over his career with the Phillies, Cubs, and Cardinals, placing him tied with Christy Mathewson for the all-time NL wins record. He is perhaps best remembered for his legendary 1926 World Series relief appearance to strike out Tony Lazzeri with the bases loaded.

The biographical clipping describes his career accomplishments in evocative period prose. Alexander's signature flows boldly in black ink across the text of the clipping, consistent with his mid-career signing style. PSA/DNA has certified this cut signature as authentic. Alexander passed away in 1950, and genuine examples of his signature are exceedingly rare in any form; authenticated cut signatures are among the most prized autograph acquisitions for collectors of the dead-ball and early live-ball era and Hall of Fame signature specialists.
