The Chicago Charities College All-Star Game was a preseason football game played annually (except for 1974) from 1934 to 1976 between the National Football League champions and a team of college seniors from the previous year. Originally a benefit for Chicago-area charities the game was always played at Soldier Field except for two years (1943 and 44) when it was played at Northwestern Universitys Dyche Stadium in Evanston Illinois. This is the official Wilson game-worn helmet used by 1948 College All-Star running back Gordon Gray from USC. The full fibre reinforced stitched helmet which didnt include a facemask in those days is complete with its snap-on chin strap. It was painted silver for the game and includes a pair of crisscrossing red and blue stripes sewn on the top. In that years game played on August 22 the collegiate All-Stars were manhandled by the Chicago Cardinals 28-0. The victory marked the eighth victory for the professionals in 15 games.
