It's an intriguing bit of imagery to ponder the ferocious visage of a 6-3 glowering mustachioed Goose Gossage peering into the catcher as he rounded out his professional resume with a 1990 sojourn to Japan.From the legendary reliever Goose Gossage comes these two amazing pairs of Mizuno spikes largely identical in virtually every aspect right down to the impressive inundation of dried mud from Japanese pitching mounds. Worn on behalf of the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks (1990) the shoes reveal an almost laughable level of dried mud on the bottoms (most noticeably) but on the tops as well particularly fascinating in that the dedicated application of mud has quite demonstrably softened the impact of fierce orange/red shoes that employ a hue and intensity that might be more suitable for the deer slayers of the Great Midwest back home. That said both pairs are otherwise largely as-issued and essentially problem-free. How Goose ever smuggled these babies past Customs is hard to figure. Each pair comes in an apparently originally-issued silver bag with drawstring both of which are in a condition not so much as a whisker different than the shoes themselves. Cough!
