Since their first squad took to the court in 1907 Georgetown University has excelled in turning out Championship teams and players. The program’s alumni reads like an All-Time All-Star Team: Patrick Ewing Allen Iverson Alonzo Mourning Jonathan Wallace Eric Floyd Dikembe Mutombo and the Hoyas have thirty appearances in the NCAA Tournament. This lot contains a nice group of four commemorative watches representing four victorious moments and seasons in Hoyas history. They were all issued to former assistant coach Norm Washington who spent many years at Georgetown as a grad assistant as well.
First is the watch commemorating Georgetown’s 1982 Big East Championship. The Seidel digital watch is engraved on the reverse with “BIG EAST BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS 1982”. The watch shows heavy usage with abrasions on the case and band. The watch comes in its original Seidel display case. Second is a 1984 Big East Champions Bulova watch with the Big East logo on the face along with “Basketball Champions 1984”. The watch shows significant wear and the black band has a slight tear where the fastener has been removed.
Third the 1984 NCAA Division I Champions Gsell watch features the NCAA logo in relief on the face with the year. The watch shows significant use with several scuffs and a small piece has been chipped from the left side of the crystal. The expandable band is intact. This watch is housed in its original handsome wood presentation box with the NCAA medallion logo set into the top. An NCAA pamphlet is included inside the case.
And finally the 1994 Tournament watch has a silver colored NCAA logo in relief on its face with “1994 NCAA Basketball Division I Champions. The watch and band show significant wear abrasions and a few areas of white paint. An impressive collection of timepieces representing two decades of Georgetown basketball excellence issued to a former assistant coach who served under the great John Thompson.
