The late George Mikan was many things including an All-American collegiate basketball player at DePaul University a five-time professional basketball champion with the then-Minneapolis Lakers and an All-Time Outstanding Catholic Athlete. The latter distinction came to Mikan during the 1950’s when the Catholic Athletic Association (CAA) bestowed the honor upon the gentle giant for his outstanding play on the court. This lot features the actual award plaque that Mikan received from the CAA which remains based in St. Paul Minnesota.Measuring 10 inches tall by eight inches wide the wooden plaque features an Olympian Greek figure with wreath in hand that stretches six inches tall standing in front of engraved brass nameplate that reads: “TO GEORGE MIKAN An All-Time Outstanding Catholic Athlete Presented by the Catholic Athletic Association.” Mikan signed the right side of the plaque in black marker.
Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Acquired directly from Mikan estate. Includes LOA signed by George Mikan.
