One of football great George Blanda's favorite off-the-gridiron pastimes was the gentleman's game of golf. Apparently he was a heck of a player who regularly competed for celebrity tournament titles and often came home with a winner's trophy. Featured here is the Hall of Famer's "QB Legends" labeled golf bag with a full set of his used clubs circa 1980's and later. The olive green leather bag with gold trim is custom-made by Wilson with a unique football leather inset panel having the same markings as a real Wilson ball. The front panel of the bag has a large red white and blue “QB LEGENDS” patch and “George Blanda” has been embroidered in white thread. The straps and fittings are all matching leather and chrome which makes an impressive and substantial bag.
Inside the bag are several golf gloves and balls in the pockets. Blanda's red 2008 Brookside Country Club (Canton OH) cap and red umbrella are included. Player tags from Brookside C.C. Butterfield C.C. Otto Graham Sports Legends Wachovia Invitational and three All-Star Invitational (Twin Orchard C.C.) are attached to the bag. All badges are stamped with George Blanda's name. A total of 13 clubs are included: three Titleist woods with covers including 907 D2 Driver (10.5 degrees 460 cc) 906 F4 Wood (15.5 degrees) and 906 F2 Wood (18 degrees); Calloway Tungsten Injected Irons 4 through PW; two putters including a heavily-used Ping Zing and a brand new Wilson VII Blackjack. All clubs (besides the Wilson putter) show ample usage with ball-striking marks and abrasions. The bag shows evident use yet remains very clean and well-maintained. Outstanding golf lot from the treasured collection of one heck of an athlete who continued swinging the sticks right up until his death at age 83 in 2010.
LOA from the Blanda Family.
