Awarded by the Sporting News the award features a silver full-size football atop a 7” x 7” x 5” wooden base. The engraved plaque on the front proclaims “THE SPORTING NEWS MARLBORO AWARD PRESENTED TO THE N.F.L. PLAYER OF THE YEAR 1970 GEORGE BLANDA.”
The silver football shows some tarnishing and surface wear from age and the wooden base has some scuffs and abrasions mostly appearing on the non-displayed back side. Weighting 4.4 lbs. it is a fitting award presented to the man who almost single-handedly carried his team to the championship game. LOA from the Blanda Family.
