Gene Tenace who played both catcher and first baseman throughout this career competed for 15 seasons in the major leagues and won three consecutive World Series titles with the Oakland As from 1972 to 74. This lot includes a special trophy that Tenace was awarded in 1973 by the Sportsmens Club for the City of Hope. The majestic 15-pound trophy stands 20 tall and includes an impressive marble base. On top of the two-tiered marble base stands a gold statuette of a heroic 12 male figure holding up a wreath. The roundish base is approximately 12 in diameter and is adorned by a gold plaque that wraps around the entire base that reads: SEVENTH ANNUAL VICTOR AWARDS GENE TENACE Baseball PRESENTED BY THE SPORTSMENS CLUB FOR THE CITY OF HOPE 1973. Tenace has autographed the gold plaque in black fine-point marker. An impressive piece of hardware for one of baseballs grittiest players.
