Gene Tenace launched a total of 201 home runs during his 15-year major league career. His milestone 200th round-tripper occurred on August 25 1982 when Tenace was playing for the St. Louis Cardinals. Squaring off against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and their ace Fernando Valenzuela Tenace hit a second inning solo bomb into the left-field seats to become just the 120th major leaguer in history to reach the magical 200 home run plateau. This lot includes that very baseball an official National League (Feeney) baseball that has since been decorated with plenty of red and black ink to commemorate the milestone shot. On the sweet spot it reads: GENE TENACE # 200 HOME RUN in alternating colors. On the left panel the games actual line score is featured while the rest of the baseball features the moment itself (Off of Valenzuela in 2nd inning a drive well into the leftfield seats) as well as additional box score information including RBI doubles home runs stolen bases sacrifice flies etc. The game-used baseball shows some yellowing over the years but the text in ink is very clear and shows that someone took the time to include all the essentials from the game which the Dodgers won in the end 11-3.
