NOTE: This is the ONLY KNOWN fully original (no enhancement) Frank Chance single signed baseball ever offered at auction.

From 1898 through 1912 Frank Chance was a key member of the Chicago Cubs. Taking over the double duty player/manager job in 1905 Chance helped lead the Cubs to four World Series' and was part of the fabled double play combo that included Tinkers and Evers.  After a remarkable 15-year association with the Cubs Chance took over as manager of the New York Yankees in 1913. Upon his return to Comiskey Park on May 17 1913 wearing Yankee gray Chicago fans turned out by the tens of thousands to honor their beloved hero on “Frank Chance Day.”

Chance passed away prematurely in 1924 at the age of fifty-seven. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame posthumously in 1946. Due to his early demise Frank Chance's signature in any form is extremely rare and it is nearly impossible to find alone on a ball. The example presented here is one of the holy grails for any Hall of Fame single-signed ball collector.  Chance’s autograph appears faintly on the sweet spot of this c.1911 official national League (T.J. Lynch) baseball. The salutation “To (unreadable) compliments of” appears above the signature and is not entirely discernible. The ball is well soiled and has scuff marks scattered throughout however Chance’s prized autograph is still identifiable. This is one of only two authentic Frank Chance single signed baseballs known in the hobby with the other having been enhanced. Technically speaking this the ONLY KNOWN fully original (no enhancement) Frank Chance single signed baseball ever offered at auction. The enhanced example sold at auction for over $39000 in 2006.

Includes full LOA’s from PSA/DNA and JSA.
