Tarkenton was a number 3 draft pick of the 1961 Minnesota Vikings. He became the starting quarterback early in his rookie season and for the next 18 seasons the 6-0 190-pound field leader never let up in his relentless quest of yardage and touchdowns. In Fran's final seven years with the Vikings (1972-1978) he led Minnesota to six NFC Central Division titles and three Super Bowl appearances. He was named first- or second-team All-NFL three times and selected to play in nine Pro Bowls during his career. At the time of his retirement Fran owned every significant passing record 3686 pass completions 47003 passing yards and 342 touchdowns. His 80.4 career passing rating places him in an elite echelon among the greatest legends at his position.

The offered Minnesota Vikings jersey was worn by Tarkenton during arguably his greatest season in pro football to tie and break one of the NFLs most significant records. On December 20 1975 Tarkenton donned this jersey in a game against the Buffalo Bills in which he threw for his 290th and 291st career touchdowns breaking the career touchdown record previously held by the great Johnny Unitas. Tarkenton would ultimately lead the Vikings to a 12-2 record in 1975 and was voted that seasons Most Valuable Player in the NFL. The purple mesh jersey features Tarkentons number 10 screened on front back and both sleeves. His last name appears stitched on a nameplate on the reverse. Original Sand-Knit exclusive Vikings tagging appears on the front tail. The jersey shows light to moderate wear and retains superb display quality.

Accompanying the jersey is handwritten letter from Tarkenton to his friend Cy Jones to whom he gifted the jersey. It reads Dear Cye This jersey was worn by me against the Buffalo Bills in Dec. of 1975. That day I threw my 290 & 291st career touchdown passes. This of course tied and set a league record. Good luck Fran Tarkenton. Also included is a photo of Tarkenton in action (wearing similar jersey) inscribed on the surrounding matte To my buddy Cy Fran Tarkenton. In terms of provenance and historical significance we cannot imagine a finer jersey from one of footballs greatest and most beloved players. Letter and photo pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
