Former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson was nicknamed the Galveston Giant whoat the height of the Jim Crow erabecame the first African American world heavyweight boxing champion (19081915). Johnson recorded 73 wins during his illustrious career winning 40 of those bouts by knockout. This lot features an oversized large format (20 wide by 30 high) colorized photograph of Johnson taken during the early days of his career in the ring. Photographed by National of New York the print appear on heavy quarter-inch-thick cardboard stock.
