Amazing 8-photo sequence of Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers stealing home during Game 1 of the 1955 World Series. The 1955 Fall Classic began on September 22, 1955, and this play occurred while the Dodgers were trailing by two runs in the eighth inning. Robinson broke for home and beat the tag from Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra. Bill Summers was the home-plate umpire on call this day and called Robinson safe as he slid into home plate. These images have been authenticated and deemed Type II authentic by PSA. This lot also includes the October 10, 1955 edition of Sports Illustrated which contains a few page spread on Jackie Robinson and his miraculous play during Game 1. The photographs measure 14"x11" and remain in great condition.
