Detroit’s Harry Heilman is among the rare group of ballplayers who have surpassed the .400 mark. Heilmann did it in 1923 and he came preciously close again in 1927 when he batted .398. Though he didn’t crack the .400 barrier, Heilmann did win the AL batting crown, and this is the reason Lucky Strike chose him to advertise their famous cigarettes. This 28 1⁄2 x 62 advertising banner features the defending AL batting champ in a classic batting pose before the iconic Lucky Strike bullseye logo. A rich, golden yellow backdrop makes the illustration of Heilmann and the Lucky Strike logo pop off the banner, making this one of the finest examples of baseball advertising in existence. This example exhibits some surface wear and toning, most noticeably near the upper left edge and the upper right side. The colors remain bright, and the professional matting and frame compliments the beauty of this impressive piece.
