This is one of a pair of framed 1909-11 T206 baseball card displays that was assembled in the period by a gentleman named Charles Daners. Daners worked in his family owned saloon named Beggis near 84th Street & Second Avenue in New York City near Central Park. As a teenager Daners was generally responsible for clean up at the saloon. Cigarettes were sold at the bar and each pack contained a baseball card. Patrons often left the cards laying on the bar or tossed them in the trash upon opening their newly purchased packs. As a baseball fan Daners made a habit of retrieving the disowned cards taking them home. When his mother noticed his sizable collection of cards she took them to a local shop and had them mounted and framed. Each display consisting of 150 different 1909-11 T206 baseball cards hung in Beggis saloon for many years where they were admired by countless patrons and most proudly admired by Charles Daners himself. Each display includes 150 different original T206 cards displayed by teams in rows of 15 cards with a healthy sampling of key Hall of Famers stars and some variations. The cards are glued to a vintage matte board and remain in their original oak frames. The card fronts range from VG to EX/MT or better with some of the key HOFers at the top end of the range. A copy of a letter of provenance from Charles Daners grandson accompanies each display.

Cards are arranged neatly in rows of 15 by team. Condition on most cards appears to range from VG to EX-MT plus. Among the 150 cards on the piece are the following key cards: Chesbro(HOF) Chase(Throw white cap) Chase(Port. blue) Mathewson(Pitch Black cap)(HOF) Mathewson(Port)(HOF) McGraw(Finger in air)(HOF) Marquard(Hands at side)(HOF) Marquard(Port)(HOF) Mathewson(Pitch white cap)(HOF) Brown(Wash) Elberfeld(Wash port.) Johnson(Port)(HOF) Johnson(Pitch)(HOF) Cicotte Speaker(HOF) Bender(Port)(HOF) Bender(No trees)(HOF) Baker(HOF) Bender(Trees)(HOF) E. Collins(HOF). About 8 common cards at the 2 bottom corners have some water staining. Collins has just a touch on the lower left corner. A few commons have some slight paper loss on front but . Original vintage frame measures about 24" by 29". This is a rare and immensely appealing folk art display of the most popular and widely collected pre-war baseball card series ever produced.
