The Cy Young Award is given annually to the best pitchers in Major League Baseball one each for the American League and National League. The award was first introduced in 1956 by then-Baseball Commissioner Ford Frick in honor of Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young who died the previous year. The award was originally given to the single best pitcher in the major leagues but in 1967 after the retirement of Frick the award was given annually to one pitcher in each league. This lot features an original painting by sports artist Ron Lewis celebrating the Cy Young Award. It shows a beautifully painted (19 wide by 22 high) portrait of Young sporting his Cleveland Naps uniform flanked by two action images of Young on the mound. The painting which includes a Cy Young award image reflecting Youngs MLB totals also sports the signatures in black marker of 28 previous Cy Young award winners including the awards original recipient Don Newcombe in 1956 along with Hall of Famers Whitey Ford Bob Gibson Tom Seaver Steve Carlton and Gaylord Perry. Other notable signatures include Dean Chance Jim Lonborg Sparky Lyle Frank Viola Bret Saberhagen and David Cone. Also included within the multi-tiered and framed piece that measures 30 wide by 33 high is an inset-mounted Cy Young autographed Hall of Fame plaque postcard. Truly an incredible collection of top-notch pitchers captured on one beautifully preserved piece.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
