George Herman Babe Ruth was an American original baseballs first great slugger and the most celebrated athlete of all-time. He was the prototype of the modern superstar whose unparalleled feats on the field were only equaled in magnitude by his gargantuan appetite for life away from the diamond and his boundless charisma. Ruths abilities and personality made him a tremendous drawing card throughout the league and accordingly the highest-paid player of his era. He was the first player to hit 30 40 50 and 60 home runs in a season and his slugging style forever changed the way baseball was played. In the field of sports memorabilia acquiring a bat that was once wielded by the great Bambino is considered a milestone achievement. The offered Hillerich & Bradsby professional Babe Ruth signature model 125 is an ideal example dating from the 1921-31 period Crafted to meet Ruths specific requirements the hefty (36.4 oz 34-3/4 in.) piece of hand turned hickory features beautiful wood grain with a perfect finish pronounced labeling and evidence of heavy game use. Compounding its appealing physical qualities is its extraordinary single-owner provenance. This Babe Ruth game bat originates from the estate of legendary composer/song writer Peter DeRose to whom it was personally gifted by the Bambino. The music of Mr. DeRose has been recorded by numerous artists including John Coltrane Spike Jones Duke Ellington Glen Miller Sarah Vaughan and Peggy Lee to name a few His work has been featured in numerous notable Broadway musicals and he is even credited with a NO.1 hit on the 1963 Billboard charts for his song When The Deep Purple Falls performed by Nino Tempo & April Stevens later performed by the duet Donny and Marie Osmond. As elite figures on New Yorks social scene Mr. DeRose enjoyed a close friendship with Babe Ruth from 1946 until Ruths passing in 1948. DeRose even wrote a popular song about Babe Ruth titled Babe which he composed and dedicated to his friend in 1947. During the course of their friendship he received numerous mementos from Ruth including this bat from his playing career and more than a dozen autographed items including photos programs books etc..

A letter of provenance from the family of Mr. DeRose accompanies.
