""Let's play two!" Ernie Banks, the eternally upbeat face of the Chicago Cubs, signs this Official National League (Feeney) baseball across the sweet spot. The signature is penned in purple ink and presents complete and legible, with the distinctive, flowing "Ernie Banks" autograph collectors recognize instantly.
Banks spent his entire 19-year career on the North Side, earning the nickname "Mr. Cub" and an enduring place in Chicago sports lore. He slugged 512 home runs, captured back-to-back National League MVP awards in 1958 and 1959 despite playing for losing clubs, and redefined the shortstop position as a genuine power threat. He was elected to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 1977 and became the first Cub to have his number retired.
The Rawlings ball, produced in Haiti during Charles S. Feeney's tenure as National League president, displays light to moderate toning, primarily scattered across the side panels. The red stitching remains bright, and the Feeney stamping and "Cushioned Cork Center" markings are clear and fully legible. The overall presentation is solid, with the signature panel showing well.
Banks signed generously throughout his life, but examples on a period-appropriate Feeney ball like this one hold particular appeal for collectors who appreciate vintage league balls. A great addition to any Cubs collection or Hall of Fame single-signed ball display. Authenticated by JSA with the corresponding JSA sticker affixed.
