As a boy in Michigan William Allen Orr worked breaking in mustang “Indian ponies.” After World War II he went to art school and trained as a portrait artist. But his love of horses proved too strong for him to stay away from the stables. He admired a horse's athletic nature and its inherent grace and he found wealthy clients who agreed. Horses became his primary subject. Today William Allen Orris among the most renowned painters of horse racing and its heritage. He and his son Bill Orr who followed in his father’s footsteps have earned national reputations as equine artists particularly the life-sized oil portraits they paint of famous horses.
“It's a natural” says Orr Sr. about his artwork. “You're painting one of the most beautiful animals in the world that has contact with man.”
Presented here is a magnificent and large (8’ by 4’) painting of 1986 Horse of The Year “Lady’s Secret” mounted by jockey Pat Day. The stunning oil on canvas is a vividly colorful rendering with magnificent detail. A museum quality tribute to a legendary race horse. Includes a Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
