The late great Eddie Mathews clubbed a total of 512 home runs during his illustrious major league career the majority of which was spent as a member of the Milwaukee Braves. With 2315 hits to his credit Mathews was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. An outstanding player Mathews was a nine-time member of the National League’s All-Star Team. This lot features Mathews’ bat from the 1955 MLB All-Star Game which was held at Milwaukee’s County Stadium on July 12. In the game which the N.L. All-Stars won by a score of 6-5 Mathews was the team’s starting third baseman and went hitless in two at-bats.

The professional model H&B ash bat (#S2) offered here is 35 inches long and weighs 30.8 ounces. It is uncracked and exhibits evidence of light use. Green bat racks marks are visible on the front barrel as are black contact streaks. A faded number “41” is written on the knob in marker matching Mathews' uniform. The barrel of the bat is engraved with the following: “ALL STAR GAME Ed Mathews MILWAUKEE 1955.” Mathews has signed the barrel of the bat in dark blue marker. His Braves and N.L. All-Star teammate Johnny Logan has also signed the barrel of the bat in blue ink. This Eddie Mathews 1955 All Star Game bat is noted on Mathews’ Professional Bat Ordering Records (PBOR) and is on file at the Louisville Slugger Museum. What’s more referring to the PBOR it’s noted that two 35-inch 32-ounce “S2” models were shipped to Mathews on July 8 1955. The order includes the notation “All Star.”
