Featured is a rose gold Elgin National Watch Co. pocket watch presented to Hall of Famer “Big” Ed Delahanty (1867-1903) by the Mansfield Rooters (the fans of the Mansfield Base Ball Club of the Ohio State League) in 1887. That year, nineteen-year-old Delahanty was embarking on his first season of what would become a Hall of Fame career, batting .351 with 90 runs scored in 83 games with Mansfield. The next season he would make his Major League debut with the Philadelphia Quakers. The watch is fancily engraved "Presented to Edward J. Delahanty by the Mansfield Rooters 1887 " on the interior and features a floral design on the outer casing.  The case also bears the maker's mark, "Fahys Montauk No. 1," and has the serial number "280968." The white 45mm open face is marked "Elgin Nat'l Watch Co." and features black Roman numeral hour markers and a second-hand subdial. When wound the watch ticks and the hands move, but accuracy is untested. In fine cosmetic condition, with light wear. Includes a small golden watch chain. Overall Very Good condition, the face of the watch is missing its glass cover and its motion is non-functioning. Diameter 2 in.
