In 1981, the Boston Celtics found their savior in newcomer Larry Bird. But one hidden gem they already had among their steady arsenal of players was M.L. Carr. Playing in his second year with Boston and sixth in professional basketball, Carr provided guidance and encouragement on the bench when he wasn’t playing solid defense on the floor. Playing in only 41 games for the Celtics that season and averaging just six points per outing, Carr saved his best performances for last as he played great defense in crucial situations and emerged as team’s towel-waving cheerleader during the playoffs at critical times when the Celts needed a real pick-me-up. Three years later, he became best known for the timely steal and dunk he made in overtime of Game 4 of the 1984 NBA Finals versus the Lakers at the L.A. Forum, which sealed the Boston’s win, and eventually helped win another title for them.

This lot features Carr’s game worn Boston Celtics home jersey that he donned during the mid-1980’s when the Celtics were establishing another dynasty run. On the jersey’s left front tail is the proper “Medalist Sand-Knit" manufacturer’s label that includes the size (“44”). Across the front of the jersey reads the team name "CELTICS" in green tackle twill letters while he last name "CARR” arches on the back in similar fashion. His uniform number "30" appears on both the front and back of the jersey, also in green tackle twill. The arms and collar are sporting Boston’s iconic green and white elastic trim. The jersey is in terrific condition and shows light use is evident throughout. A small, slight black ink mark appears underneath the top of the number “3” on the jersey back. This jersey is a cherished gamer from the Celtics storied run in the 1980’s.
