These shoes were game worn by arguably the greatest basketball player of the postwar era a bit of seeming hyperbole made even more cogent if the parameters include high school college and the pro ranks. It's only slightly disingenuous to suggest that the biggest adjustment the youngster Lew Alcindor had to make as he arrived in the NBA in 1969 was to the idea of periodic losing; in high school and college he had suffered the agony of defeat but just four times in 171 games. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was named a record six-times the NBA’s Most Valuable Player a record 19-time NBA All-Star and a 15-time All-NBA selection. A member of six NBA championship teams as a player and two as an assistant coach Abdul-Jabbar was twice voted as the NBA Finals MVP. At the time of his retirement in 1989 Abdul-Jabbar was the NBA's all-time leader in points scored games played field goals made blocked shots and defensive rebounds. He remains the all-time leading scorer in the NBA with 38387 career points.

Both white leather Adidas (purple leather stripes) shoes show game use but remain in remarkably good condition. Abdul-Jabbar has signed in blue pen on the outside heel of both shoes. The shoes remain with all elements intact and largely as-issued and problem free with the intricately cut three purple leather stripes on each side and the stamped Adidas manufacturer's label (“SUPERSTAR”) on the tongue.

Provenance: This lot originates from a gentleman who has enjoyed a long and successful career in Hollywood as an agent for many well-known athletes and entertainers. His professional and personal network enabled him to amass a significant collection of memorabilia nearly all of which was given to him directly from the athletes and entertainers themselves. All of these items are being introduced to the marketplace here for the first time. While our consignor remains anonymous SCP Auctions will issue an LOA for each game used item attesting to its player-direct provenance.
